I don't know how to do birthdays.

I'm a September baby, was meant to be October but I was early - only time ever it seems. And I fit the brief as a Virgo, I don't know much about Astrology, can't say I believe in it really but hey when, the shoe fits!

Anyway, I have always loved my birthday, as one of many children it seemed to be the only day about me in the year and I relished in the attention. This has not generally changed as I've gotten older but the attitude by others towards my birthday had changed. This is normal, as a person gets older their birthday becomes less significant until a certain age and then each birthday is momentous again as you know there will be fewer.

I'm in that nondescript middle piece. I don't get many cards, gifts or well wishes. Immediately family and some close friends will send cards, flowers and gifts but it isn't the money making scheme it was the I was a child. That being said, I have until this year still experienced that feeling of excitement, it's my day and I get to be the centre.

But for some reason this year is different, no idea why. I haven't been wishing time away or wondering what surprises await me. I haven't been thinking of how I'll spend my birthday week or bothered that my entire family will be out all day so I'll be home alone with the dog like every other day. Maybe this is what happens and it hit me later? Am I supposed to still be excited for my birthday? I have now idea, but I do know I'm using it as an excuse to have a gin and tonic on a Monday night because hey, it's my birthday month!
